Foreigners keen on US real estate

By Cate Chapman, Editor at LinkedIn News

The pain of America's would-be homebuyers has become the gain of foreign investors. Sales of pre-owned homes to non-U.S. citizens climbed 33% in the year through March — the first increase since before the pandemic. Buyers from Mexico, Canada and Israel have helped drive the surge, encouraged by a weaker dollar and domestic demand. Americans, meanwhile, are hampered by high mortgage rates and home prices. But for foreigners, many of whom don't live stateside, it doesn't matter what they buy, as long as "it's always the U.S."
